Does this explanation to this academic strategy hold?

This is an academic strategy toward aceing your studies that my friend proposed yesterday. He said that the more difficult a subject is, the easier it is to get an A. Strange, isn’t it?

Why did he say that? He said that it is this kind of subjects that turn more students off from studying them due to the mentality that it is hard to comprehand. For this subject, it is less competitive in getting an ‘A’. If you put in effort in following through all lectures and understand the concepts more than an average student in the cohort, you can get an ‘A’ without applying much examination answering strategies. However, if you do the same for another easier subject, you might not get it as the competition is stiffer.

So how true is it? He said that for his friends who managed to get ‘A’ in their results, their ‘A’ come from the more difficult subjects and not the easier ones. However, I have a different viewpoint from his.

There are 2 reactions when students met with difficult subjects. The first one will be to switch off and don’t bother about it until exams come and the second one will be to raise alarm in themselves. These students will be more attentive in this difficult subjects lecture as compared to others. It’s hard to comprehend so I have to put in more effort and time in understanding them. As a result, they manage to get an ‘A’ but not the students with the first reaction.

So what is really the reason for this phenomeon? Well, I don’t think there is a ready answer for it but one thing for sure, you have to put in more effort for the different subject. As to how easy it is to get an ‘A’ for a different subject, it just reman a myth.
